Why would they need both a cell phone and a pager?

Who uses pagers anymore at all?

A couple of possibilities:
  • One does not want at all times to be reachable by both of two parties.
  • The expense of communications from one party should be borne by that party, and
    • accountancy is easier with separate devices, or
    • the marginal cost of pager communications is significantly lower, or
    • said party are just asses.

Our photographers at work carry cell phones and pagers... pagers are considered a more reliable / "emergency" line of communication, or a backup if we're not able to get hold of them on cell phone.

My question... who carries a DICTIONARY around with them all the time?

Maybe he only takes dictionaries into bars and restaurants.

There's a difference between one on your phone and taking a ginormous book with you. :)

that of course has to be "Rat's Ginormouse Dictionary of Insult and Stereotyping" ah... it seems normal for a author to bring a copy of his own books around.

Kansas City's ABC news?

Why hello there, fellow Kansas Citian. :)

Well, hey there fellow Kansas Citian!

This reminds me of "Don't be a Menace to South Central While Drinking your Juice In the Hood", in front of the convinence store.

I suppose I thus fit into this category...and at times more so than normal XD

Judging by Pig's eyes in the last panel, he has never known such fear.

Who still uses pagers?
24th-Jan-2008 07:41 am (UTC)
One of my instructers at college does.

Of course, she's my ASL teacher, and is Deaf, so a cell phone wouldn't be very handy for her.
24th-Jan-2008 09:29 am (UTC)
deaf utilise cell phones since their beginning. they can send SMS and that's the most convenient way to communicate remotely!!!

pagers are gay - one way connection...
24th-Jan-2008 09:46 am (UTC)
actually, all the deaf folks i know have devices like sidekicks with no voice plan and unlimited texting.
24th-Jan-2008 11:43 am (UTC)
That's what all of my (deaf) friends use and at one time I used a Sidekick myself.
24th-Jan-2008 12:22 pm (UTC)
not a fan of sidekicks.

i should prolly edit my comment to include blackberries as well, but not so much iPhones.

pretty much any phone great for texting, for that matter.

Stuff clipped to the belt, bad.

Stuff on a utility belt, awesome.

When will someone come up with a cool utility belt.
24th-Jan-2008 03:44 pm (UTC)
hmm. I have one of those weird idea to design a harness for laptop on the go. i.e. you can wipe out your laptop, put it on the harness and use it while standing up on the train. useful if you can't get a seat but feel like doing something on your laptop on you daily transit.

okay, but the problem remains even if there is such a harness, would anyone be "geek" enough to try it? I'm sure it takes a while for "gadgets" users to overcome their "geek" connotation. but the harness? any takers?

What about a utility kilt? UtiliKilts are quite the rage at a summer music festival around here.
25th-Jan-2008 05:31 pm (UTC)
Saw them, wasn't quite taken. Especially the price. I'm cheap.

I did mean the question in sarcasm, like asking "What's a tape?" or "Who's Peter Gabriel?" to pretend I'm young.

[yes, I had a Peter Gabriel tape]
